Mike,
OK, so..... my 1st session with my GT I decided to set it up per your recommendations.
3 feet up and 6 feet
out from a drum kit. It sounded nice in context. Then when the
session was done, I soloed it...and yes, fell out of my chair.
I
could easily mix this record with just that and a bit of kick
snare. Oh MY!
Then last night I set it up as my room mic for electric guitar. I generally put my Korby Modded Pre ai 87 in there....with my Cascade X15 as the direct mic. I put the GT in Omni....about 3 feet above the amp and 3 feet back as my iso booth is a bit small. Even so, this was the best damn sound I've ever gotten for a gtr room mic. Simply floored. With the 87 I will use the X15 full on in a mix with just a touch of the 87. NOW? the GT sounds so darn good, its gonna get pushed WAY up in the mix with the primary mic.
I cant tell you how happy I am with this mic, I've never used a mic of this caliber...and to know that its mine.....well, makes me smile from the inside out! :-)
I was looking for a mic to be light years above my 87. Well, I've found it. I've bought AKG The Tube, only to sell it quickly, a matched pair of minty & original Groove Tube MD1a's (the original hand made ones) only to be underwhelmed....and so many more attempts to beat my 87. The race is over, and MY GT is the new apple of my eye!
Thanks for such a wonderful mic!
PS, You know, at 1st I was a bit hesitant to use it on guitar...I think Shane at Alto said it my be too loud for the mic and break it up. I did not notice any thing of the sorts. I was using an API pre and a Lucas Limiter (Terry Manning's Boutique Tube Limiter Line).
